Understanding Alum Rock’s real challenges

Alum Rock faces a number of long-standing problems that residents experience every day. These include unreliable basic services such as bin collections and street cleanliness, concerns around community safety and anti-social behaviour, and a growing sense that local voices are not being properly heard.

Many residents feel disconnected from the council system and unsure how to raise issues effectively. Language barriers, complex processes, and a lack of clear representation often mean that problems remain unresolved for far too long.

Why local experience matters

Ansar believes that effective local representation starts with understanding the community from the inside. Having lived and worked in Alum Rock for many years, he understands not just the issues, but how they affect real people and families on a daily basis.
